Hi, my name is Jason Campbell and I am a User Experience Evangelist for Microsoft for the Southwest based out of Los Angeles.
This site is my sounding board as I learn Silverlight and the Expression suite of tools from Microsoft. I will be sharing news and information about the state of Silverlight out in the world as I encounter it. There will be links and reviews of sites and books for learning the tools specifically how helpful they are to me as a traditional Flash designer and hobby developer in making my transition.
The site itself is powered by Wordpress using a custom made template that I built with Expression Web 2. All of it’s development was done on a Dell Laptop running Vista, including local hosting and testing using PHP and MySQL. The graphics were made using a combination of Fireworks and Photoshop.
There are a couple of interesting CSS techniques that I used to achieve the two column layout. One of which was Cameron Adams Footer Stick Alt, and the other is Equal Height Columns from Position is Everything. So far I have tested the design in…
- IE7
- Safari 3.2.1 (Vista)
- FF 3.05(Vista)
- Opera 9.62(Vista)
- Safari 3.2.1(OSX)
- FF 2.0.0.20(OSX)
- Opera 9.6.3(OSX)
- Shiira 2.2(OSX)
and I am not weeping in the corner. There are known issues with the IE8 Beta, not the least of which is I don’t have it running due to some incompatibility with my OS and the current release, so those issues will have to persist for the moment. I also do not have IE6 installed, I don’t support it, it pains me to acknowledge it’s existence, its closing in on being two versions behind current release and beyond long in the tooth. If you are on IE6 please upgrade, end of rant.
I have already begun my foray into this new world and I look forward to sharing it all with you as the site evolves. Thanks for stopping by.
J.
