  • Windows Phone 7 Jumpstart

    Jul 16 2010

Windows Phone 7 JumpStart is a virtual live class for developers interested in developing applications for the Windows Phone 7 platform using Silverlight and XNA. The Windows Phone Keynote during WPC includes an announcement of a new version of tools available for Windows Phone 7. This class ties well with the message that there is free virtual class training for developers to obtain the skills necessary to begin developing applications prior to an H1 release.

The course is organized into four virtual instructor-led sessions that are of 3-hour duration. They will be presented by forthcoming MS Press authors and MVP’s, Andy Wigley and Rob Miles. It will provide developers a jump start for developing Windows Phone 7 applications.  The Labs will be completed offline with office hour access to the instructors.

The dates for these course sessions are:
July 20 – 8am: Session One: Getting Started with Microsoft Windows Phone and Silverlight
July 20 – 1pm: Session Two: Programming Game Applications with XNA
July 22 – 8am: Session Three: Programming Applications with Silverlight
July 22 – 1pm: Session Four: Review and Wrap Up

Andy Wigley – MVP and author of the upcoming MS Press book – Silverlight Programming for Windows Phone 7 (likely with Peter Foot). This book is going to approach WP7 from the standpoint of an experienced SL developer. This will be a smaller, more focused book than #1. Andy and Peter are coauthors of our most-successful Windows Mobile book, the Microsoft Mobile Development Handbook, and longtime mobile applications developers, conference speakers, MVPs, etc.

Rob Miles – MVP and author of the forthcoming MS Press Book – Microsoft XNA Game Studio 3.0: Learn never programmed and is based on his popular university classes. The first edition covered Xbox programming, the second added Zune, and this new edition will add in WP7. Along the way, readers learn to program in C#, while creating or modifying games. Accessible to middle-school students (like my son, when he was 12), this book is also the basis of our Academic Edition, Introduction to Programming.

The foundation of the content we’re using is the newly updated DPE Training Kit on Windows Phone 7 development, developed by Jaime Rodriguez and Yochay Kiriaty. The authors are creating the slides and interactive activities to supplement the TK and TK labs.

We’re recording this event to be posted for future students to download from the Zune Marketplace, iTunes, and Channel 9 (other sites TBD). This further supports the BG need to have trained developers working on Windows Phone applications and games.

I highly recommend you signing up for the training if you have interest in WP7 development.

    Best,
    J.
