Silverlight | Switch

  • Home Sweet Home

It’s been three weeks since I have been home and able to concentrate on my studies of Expression and Silverlight. I finished my animation for the holiday card, it wasn’t a monumental undertaking by any means but it did highlight some areas that I need to familiarize myself with and some issues I can’t overcome, for instance I’m not a copywriter, heh. I had hoped to include audio into the animation but as it stands now it’s almost 1MB in file size, and given the content and the duration it shouldn’t be that big. So first thing on the list is asset management so as to reduce the unecessary bloat caused by seperate yet redundant graphics. There is much more to highlight and I am working on the full write up on how I went about creating the animation as it is now and continuing to educate myself how to do it better. So look for those posts in the near future.

Part of my trip was time in LA for Phizpop, unfortunately it was hard not to notice the impact that the current state of the economy has had on the community there as we had two of our teams drop out before the training. Despite those setbacks we had three excellent teams that did some amazing work given the constraints. Archetype, PUNY, and Manifest Games all took up the challenge of redefining the model for a music label in this new digital age and each delivered a unique and compelling solution. In the end the comprehensive solution offered up by Archetype won them the prize and the trip to SXSW to compete in the Phizzpop nationals.

I’m happy to be home, even if it is for just a short time before I am off to SXSW and MIX09, and back at work on the content here. I apologize for the delay in posts and I hope I am able to make an impact here before I am off again.
